TODAY’S SUBSTACK:
AMERICA IS RACIST FOR NO REASON
*footnotes can be found at the bottom of the post
Right now I am jamming out to what is called Latin Jazz on Deezer while I am writing this substack. But right before this, I listened to Tinie Tempah, Flo Rida, and Iggy Izalea proceed to denigrate themselves and the entire black community. It got me thinking… In 2023, why is this country still so damn racist?
Turn on almost ANY black comedian: Dave Chappelle, Aries Spears, Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy, Trevor Noah, etc. and you only hear an endless stream of denigrating stereotypes about black people. It doesn’t matter which comedian, it is endless.
You know I actually tried to find a single black comedian who said one POSITIVE thing about black people in their act? I couldn’t find one. There wasn’t a SINGLE black comedian who could make a case for why black people are awesome. Instead I just heard endless bullcrap like black people being poor, oppressed, prisoners, drug users, and a word which I will not repeat.
side note: a well-written, historically accurate view of slavery in America is Frederick Douglass’s Narrative Life. The famed abolitionist goes over the stark contrast between the North and the South and their divergent opinions on slavery and racism. If your child is forced to learn 1619 Project propaganda, this book will help him or her learn what really went on during the 1800s in America.
But most black people are not these things. Most black people aren’t doing rounds of cocaine and holding assault rifles while cheating on their wife or trying to get out of child support payments. This is simply racist propaganda.
But what I can’t wrap my head around is why this is not just glorified, but also popular.
Take the “black people are oppressed” narrative. The Vice President is black, two Supreme Court Justices are black, there’s a Congressional Black Caucus, Obama is black, various celebrities and actors are black billionaires, there’s two cable TV Networks owned by black people, and 1 in 8 black people are in the upper class. [1]
In fact, many of the black comedians who make these denigrating and outright racist jokes are in the very wealth class of people they say black people are not in.
Dave Chappelle, for instance, has an estimated net worth of 60 million dollars. [2] He is a highly influential, successful comedian whom millions look up to. But what does he do? He endlessly spews racist propaganda about, well, everyone, but especially black people.
Why are we denigrating an entire people group? Why are the people at the top participating in this?
But the same is also true for other people groups here as well. Children are being taught that white people are all evil oppressors.
Now, I have no idea what your heritage is, but mine is Italian, Russian, and Czechoslovakian. Let’s focus on one of those for now: Italian.
When Italians came to this country, we were treated almost as badly as black people at the time. In some instances worse. The largest lynching in American history happened to Italian-Americans. [3] We were declined jobs, thrown in prison, beaten by police, oh, and you also found some of us in internment camps alongside the Japanese in WWII.
But you know what you will NEVER find? You will NEVER find an Italian calling himself and his friends a Dago or a WOP, and you will not see us constantly joking about mob connections and selling drugs and alcohol, and calling hits on people. You know why? Because that is not true for most of us, promotes the worst among us, and brings on unnecessary hate. You won’t hear us joke about being in concentration camps, getting lynched, and calling ourselves victims. Why? Because this doesn’t raise a population, it destroys it.
But our history also shows how we couldn’t possibly be oppressors. Amidst all that oppression, who the hell would we possibly be oppressing? The 1619 Project is, therefore, racist trash too.
Now, I mentioned listening to Latin Jazz earlier. There is a point to this. As I was listening, it got me thinkong how there was a time when black people promoted positive truths about the community. There was a time when black people were at the forefront creating amazing music, and getting recognition for it. Jazz was one notable example of this.
There was a time when black celebrities were Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Count Basie, Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, and many others.
Today, if black celebrities, like Candace Owens, say THE SAME THINGS these heroes said, they are denigrated, blacklisted, and called “Uncle Toms.” ESPECIALLY by other black people. Why? Why is Frederick Douglass wrong? Why is Dr. King wrong?
Why is it so evil to believe black people can succeed? Why would black people rather listen to Don Lemon, Kevin Hart, or Eddie Murphy spew hateful, racist propaganda about black people all day long instead of hear someone like Kanye say important business tips and inspire black people to become the next billionaires and innovators?
Why is Clarence Thomas an Uncle Tom for supporting rights and equality for all while Ketanji Brown Jackson is considered many black people’s champion for calling all black people oppressed and broke? [4] Does anyone else see this?
Why is the media-industrial-complex promoting endless hatred, racism, and denigrating stereotypes about everyone? Most of it is pure fiction. Why are white comedians and thinkers self-depricating themselves? Why are black thinkers and celebrities promoting racist stereotypes about black people? Why is there so much pointless racism and hate?
We need to stop it. This isn’t the 1960s anymore. White people aren’t waiting around the corner to lynch black people. Black people thrive and succeed regularly. It’s time to stop the racism, promote positive role models, and help each other reach our full potential.
