MIKE JOHNSON: THE GOOD. THE BAD. AND THE UGLY.

So you all may have heard we have a new speaker: Mike Johnson.
While many conservatives were begging for Jim Jordan (it would’ve been nice to have someone who actually vocally supports rolling back the regulatory state in the Speaker’s chair for a change), Mike Johnson certainly is no Pelosi. But I have my reservations:
He voted against Constitutional Policing [4]
AIPAC was his biggest donor in the 2022 election cycle. [3]
Don’t take that last point to mean I don’t support the nation-state of Israel. I think Israel belongs to the Jewish people, that Muslems stole it during The Crusades, and the HAMAS terrorist attack was brutal and I hope Israel takes Gaza over without harm to civilians in the process and then ends their Jim-Crow-style rulership against anyone who doesn’t practice Judaism in their country. [1]
side note: a fantastic read on the REAL history of Israel and why Muslems stole it is Alan Dershowitz’s The Case For Israel. Dershowitz writes a meticulously sourced read on the history of the conflict and why Israel is the rightful owner of the region.
But AIPAC, or the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, is largely responsible for Americans’ recent, two-decade involvement in the Middle East. [6]
Do we really want to send more of our children off to die for a country that didn’t even provide a single soldier for the War on Terror? Or even the Gulf War? This is one of my concerns with the new speaker. I could easily see him pushing a bill declaring war on HAMAS, which could cause repeat of the Iraq War.
Biden has already amassed 2,000 troops on ships in the area. [7] The big question for me is: why?
I think the soldiers with blown off legs from terrorist IEDs who have to spend the rest of their lives in a wheelchair deserve a better legacy than America simply being Israel’s pitbull. The War on Terror was EXTREMELY deadly, costly, and draining on Americans’ psyche. [5]
I ardently hope Israel takes over the Gaza strip, ends HAMAS’s reign of terror, and stabilizes the region. I just don’t see why we are necessary to do it. After all, Israel has twice made light work of the entire Mideast, and we supply their PATRIOT missile defense system.
Onto the other point, While Mike Johnson has been strong on gun rights and also voted in favor of Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary For Criminals Act, [4] he also voted against a bill that would increase transparency in police departments and prevent discriminatory practices. [4]
Now, the specific bill he voted against, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, says a police officer isn’t allowed to violate constitutional rights just because he thinks an action is justified. [9]
Any bills that can work to end that carnage is a must. Voting against such a bill, there needs to be a good justification.
People need to realize the gravity of the situation with George Floyd and policing in general. People from all ethnic groups get shot and killed regularly by police. [8] What happened to George Floyd happens to everyone. He wasn’t a special case. So why vote against fixing that?
Overall, Mike Johnson is pretty conservative. He has a great record against vaccine mandates and against giving the CDC authoritarian powers, including sponsoring the Freedom for Healthcare Workers Act [10], he’s been strong on gun rights, and has generally voted against more government spending.
I just hope he doesn’t greenlight a war declaration that would cause another big war in the Mideast, considering his backers. We don’t need to be Israel’s pitbull. They can easily take over Gaza and, with our continued exchange of advanced military tech, defend themselves.
